Turkey Day update

Hello folks, it’s Thanksgiving Day and I have an update on Touhou Mecha!

Magus Trio

The addition to Chapter 1 has been written and coded. I’ve also finished the new mecha sprites and CGs. That leaves us with this remaining work:

– A few more expression sets for Utsuho, Rin and Yamame for the rewritten dialogue
– Rework the code on the old part of Chapter 1 to work with the new 1024×576 resolution
– Program a few extra features

What extra features, you ask? Here’s what’s planned right now…

-Music Room
-TM Database, explained in this post
-Hellcat Corner, which will contain some skits in which we freely break the 4th wall and talk about the story and world of Touhou Mecha itself!

At this point, there are no plans for a CG gallery, since the VN has been kept to a fairly modest screen size to simply the task of animation. Instead, I’m thinking of uploading select CGs to my Deviantart account and possibly the DSD forums, depending on image size limitations. You may see them in up to twice the size of how they appear in the VN!

Slash!

A first-half-of December release should be possible if I control the urge to redraw a bunch of things. Already tempted to redo Utsuho’s sprite set… but anyway, Happy Thanksgiving! We’ll see you all again soon.

  1. This cg with Patchouli, Marisa and Alice is so epic, I just love it!
So it’ll be out soon! I can’t wait to play to the 2nd chapter! ^^ By the way, I don’t this Utsuho’s sprite set needs to be redrawn, but well, I know how it is when you’re not satisfied with something, it becomes an obsession! xD

  2. yes i cant wait!
okay so i can as i will have to as it takes a while to do such a good job a you guys do. also how is eternal dilemma coming, will it be complete soon?

  3. Well, I was expecting an ESR post at some point.

Are you guys still even working on that? It’s been a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time since any update happened.

  4. We were hesitant to release news of ESR since we don’t have more screenshots available– I’ll work on the art for it again when it gets closer to completion. I can put in a rough estimate of where the script’s at though.

Demo 2.0 started at Day 3/1 and ended at 4/10, for a total of 39 days. It clocked in at about 133,000 words I believe.

The script is now up to around the end of Month 5, with a few holes that need to be filled in that month balanced out with a few days written ahead of Month 5. Month 4 has 29 days, and Month 5 has 30. So about 49 days written since Demo 2.0 came out.

After that there’s about 84 more days, and I believe that actually accounts for route splits. The common route is pretty long, but the writers were sane enough to keep the branching under control it seems like.

It’s hard for me to say “It’ll be done in a couple of years” or something because there’s a number of factors still at work:

-Theoretically the paths should be easier to write after pathlock since you’re not trying to juggle so many different possibilities. Faster!
-The writers seem to be generally busier than they were 2 years ago. Slower.
    -Testing, revisions– slower.

But yeah, if the writers want to add to or correct any of that, please jump in.

  5. Graph’s covered most of it. The good news is we’ve reached the endings. The bad news is we’re all super busy, and we have 5+ endings to make.

I do have a few ideas on how to help speed things up, so expect a post in January. But until I float it by everyone else I don’t want to go into detail.

  6. Yeah…we’re about, but a lot of us are busy with real life stuff. Although I will become less busy in a short while, so maybe that’s indicative of further progress…?

  7. Since fans like us will bray incessantly until we get the information we’d like, future updates for Touhou Mecha might as well add:

“No, we haven’t abandoned ESR. It’s still in the works.”

Or something, just a thought. 🙂
